Speaking of LinkedIn, our Marketing Coordinator Noel is jumping in for me this week with insights on LinkedIn’s recent shifts and what it means for your posts. #spoileralert
LinkedIn Algorithm
When LinkedIn updated its algorithm at the start of 2026, it pulled the rug out from under one of our most ubiquitous posting habits: the hashtag. For years, we stuffed a few tags at the bottom of our posts (or snuck them into the copy itself) hoping to get our content in front of the right people. That approach is no longer rewarded. LinkedIn’s algorithm now scans your copy for keywords and uses them to determine the best audience for your post, making hashtags largely irrelevant.
This shift isn’t unique to LinkedIn. Instagram has been moving in a similar direction, recently capping hashtags at five per post. The response from many users has been to cram a string of keywords at the bottom of their captions instead, which just causes clutter and looks a lot like the poster is just throwing spaghetti at a wall. The underlying habit of hashtagging, though, runs deep. The early days of Twitter conditioned us to tag everything and most LinkedIn users still do it on autopilot. It’s still possible to tailor your content by searching for posts with specific hashtags, but as more people learn about these algorithm changes, the less useful this tactic will become.
So what actually works right now? Keywords embedded naturally in your copy, substantive comments (15+ words at least), as well as saves. These signal tell the algorithm that your content is sparking interest and discussion.
The takeaway is that LinkedIn is rewarding content that genuinely resonates with less tag-stuffing and more substance. Write posts worth saving. Spark conversations worth having.
