Code of Conduct

Build Trust and Credibility

The success of Marit Digital is dependent on the trust and confidence earned from our employees, customers, and clients. We gain credibility by adhering to our commitments, displaying honesty and integrity, and delivering quality products and experiences.

Improvements for All

Marit Digital strives to be a company that improves the lives of everyone it touches. We seek to support the enrichment and education of our communities. We aim to build the skills and expertise of our clients and customers and to support our employees’ own growth and development. Our long-term success is in building and nurturing partnerships in all our interactions.

Respect for the Individual

We all deserve to work in an environment where we are treated with dignity and respect. The first step in all interactions, whether with clients or colleagues, is to listen with empathy to understand each other’s needs and goals. Marit Digital is committed to cultivating this process because it encourages open communication and is a key step on the road to a successful partnership.

Open and Honest Communication

At Marit Digital everyone should feel comfortable speaking their mind, particularly with respect to ethics concerns. Leadership has a responsibility to create an open and supportive environment where employees feel comfortable raising such questions or concerns, so they may be partners in the success of the organization.

Safe and Inclusive Workplace Policy

Marit Digital is committed to providing a safe, inclusive and respectful environment, free of discrimination and harassment.

This policy protects the rights and dignity of all members of our company and community in all Marit Digital spaces, events, and related settings. This policy covers conduct and behavior, both online and offline, by or against our employees, contract workers, customers, vendors or other persons who do business with Marit Digital.

Basic Conduct Standards

All Marit Digital employees are expected to support an inclusive workplace by adhering to the following conduct standards:

  • Treat others with dignity and respect at all times.
  • Address and report inappropriate behavior and comments that are discriminatory, harassing, abusive, offensive or unwelcome.
  • Foster teamwork and participation, encouraging the representation of different perspectives. This applies within the Marit Digital team, as well as among the clients we work with and the customers we train.
  • Seek out insights from those with different experiences, perspectives, and backgrounds.
  • Avoid slang or idioms that might not translate across cultures.
  • Support flexible work arrangements for those with different needs, abilities and/or obligations.
  • Confront the decisions or behaviors of others that are based on conscious or unconscious biases.
  • Be open-minded and listen when given constructive feedback regarding others’ perceptions of your conduct.

Harassment and Discrimination

Marit Digital has zero tolerance for any form of unlawful harassment or discrimination.

It is illegal and strictly prohibited to create a hostile or offensive work environment or treat anyone differently or unfairly because of their sex, pregnancy, gender identity, race, religion, national origin, age, disability or any other characteristic or consideration protected by federal, state or local laws.

Examples of harassment include but are not limited to:

  • Racial slurs or stereotypes, including demeaning or derogatory remarks or jokes.
  • Unwelcome sexual advances, including lewd or obscene remarks or jokes, whether spoken or transmitted digitally; offensive or suggestive images or graphics whether physically present in the workplace or accessed over the Internet; or the possession of or use of sexually suggestive objects.
  • Unwelcome physical contact, including touching another’s body or touching or displaying one’s own body.
  • Inappropriate behavior of any kind.

Behavior does not need to be illegal in order to be inappropriate. People can only thrive in environments where they feel comfortable, supported, and protected. Therefore, we are committed to addressing and resolving any behavior that has the impact of making someone feel unwelcome, uncomfortable, or disrespected, regardless of the intent.

Bystander Intervention

It is our collective responsibility to own and protect a safe and respectful work environment. Be on call to support others in difficult situations and practice empathy when doing so. Intervention is encouraged. Speak up honestly and assertively to condemn negative language and behavior or interrupt and redirect negative situations. Document inappropriate incidents in writing with a timestamp, and report persistent negative behavior via the procedures below.

We are equally committed to empowering every employee and contract worker with the skills and knowledge to effectively assist in protecting a safe and respectful environment. To this end, Marit Digital will make bystander awareness and intervention training available for all employees to support our safe and inclusive workplace policy.

Whistleblower Reporting Procedures

It is the responsibility of all who do business with Marit Digital to report suspected illegal harassment or discrimination as soon as it happens.

To report a suspected violation of this policy, please speak directly to Marit Digital leadership. You may also submit an anonymous report via the form included in the employee handbook.

Reports will be kept confidential to the fullest extent possible, consistent with the need to conduct an adequate investigation.

Procedures in Cases of Harassment

Every report of harassment will be investigated promptly and impartially. The investigation will document the who, what, when, and where, including details from the initial report(s) and all other possible witnesses, as well as written or electronic evidence. Once the investigation is complete, parties involved will be notified about the results and any corrective and preventive actions taken.

Consequences for violating this policy include discipline up to and including immediate discharge from employment, removal from leadership, or expulsion from Marit Digital spaces and related settings.

In cases where the harassment comes from outside the company, leadership will take the appropriate steps to remove those involved. Marit Digital reserves the right to terminate a contract where it is determined that harassment and/or discrimination is taking place.

Prohibition on Retaliation

It is illegal and strictly prohibited to retaliate in any way against an individual who has reported violations of this policy or who has cooperated with an investigation of an incident report.

Everyone covered by this policy can make a report or speak out against harassment or discrimination without fear of retaliation. This no-retaliation policy applies whether a good faith complaint of harassment is well founded or ultimately determined to be unfounded.

Our Business Conduct

At Marit Digital, we must have the courage to tackle the tough decisions and make difficult choices, secure in the knowledge that we’re committed to doing the right thing. We may make choices based on our mission and values that are in opposition to the short-term health of the company; it is within our power to define our priorities.

Although Marit Digital’s guiding principles cannot address every issue or provide answers to every dilemma, they can define the spirit in which we intend to do business and should guide us in our daily conduct.

Accountability

Each of us is responsible for knowing and adhering to the values and standards set forth in this Code and for raising questions if we are uncertain about company policy. If we are concerned about whether the standards are being met or are aware of violations of the Code, we must contact leadership.

Marit Digital takes seriously the standards set forth in the Code, and violations are cause for disciplinary action up to and including termination of employment.
