Red Hat has a new partner. Red Hat and Cohesity, a leader in AI-powered data security and management, have jointly announced that Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) will be the foundational operating system moving forward for the Cohesity Data Cloud platform.
Started in 2002, the Fedora Project provides upstream or cutting edge source for Red Hat Enterprise Linux. “Installing Linux distributions can be a daunting task,” said Matthew Miller, Fedora Project Lead.
The companies were recently sending barbed comments back and forth over Red Hat’s decision to end support of the public version of Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), CentOS. Not on Wednesday.
Recent changes made by open source leader Red Hat has made around its primary product – Red Hat Enterprise Linux – and its support has antagonized the open-source developer community. Some are claiming violation of the terms essential to its millions of users worldwide.
To be sure the dissolution of CentOS Linux indicates – at a minimum – major damage to Red Hats’ positioning as a paragon of open source. It might even signal the end. It’s a pretty clear sign that Red Hat is under new management.
